Semi -Accessible Holiday Accommodation
We try wherever possible to welcome all guests. As all the buildings on the Toft Estate are very old and are Listed Buildings, unfortunately we have been unable to offer fully accessible accommodation for those in a wheelchair. However, Toft Barn, Chels Barn and Toft Nook do have ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms.
Accessibility of Toft Estate – Not wheelchair friendly
Toft Barn has one ground floor twin bedroom with an accessible wet-room ensuite. There is no-step access to the outside, the living room and entrance lobby. However there is one step up to the open place kitchen/dining room.
Chels Barn is a gorgeous barn, but as it is built on the gentle slope of a hill, it has four steps up from the kitchen to the dining room and four steps from the dining room to the main living room. There are 3 bedrooms, plus two wet rooms on the ground floor. One of the bedrooms + ensuite wet room has a step going down to it (off the dining room).
Toft Nook is a cosy barn for two guests (perfect if you want to accommodate additional guests when booking another of the Toft Estate properties). All rooms are at ground floor level and include a living room with kitchenette, double bedroom and shower room (NB there is a step up to the shower itself).
Toft Hall was built in the late 1500’s and sadly has no ground floor bedrooms, but there is a ground floor WC.
All properties have facilities for car parking outside and the private outside gardens and fields are accessible without steps.
We are able to provide a Deafguard for the hard of hearing, which vibrates should the fire alarms sound (you place it under your pillow at night!) but please let us know in advance.
There are many accessible trails in the Peak District National Park. Do visit their Miles Without Stiles guide to footpaths which are easy to use for those in wheelchairs or who have young children in buggies, You can even hire an all-terrain BOMA bike if you are feeling more adventurous!
As the properties at Toft Estate as so lovely, you may decide you don’t even want to go out! Take you time to enjoy the views – miles and miles of lovely countryside can be seen from all the gardens. Often you can spot hares, little owls, barn owls and red deer in the area. On a warm evening light up the BBQ and enjoy the hot tub views!
Why not book a chef and waiters to serve you a very special dinner to the menu of your choice? It’s an option that holds great value, as you don’t have to pay restaurant wine prices or splash out on cabs home. For more casual dining, take-aways can be delivered too or there are several great food pubs a short drive away.
Alternatively, you can learn something new! Outdoor event companies can bring wheelchair archery and other activities to you at Toft. Or how about life drawing classes, or wine and whisky tasting? There are plenty more ideas – just have a look at the Activities page.
